Intelligent user interfaces mediate between person and machine to increase the ease and effectiveness of user interactions. Research in intelligent user interfaces draws on areas such as artificial intelligence and human-computer-interaction to support a wide range of users, from novices to experts; to support a wide range of tasks and task environments; and to exploit a wide range of platforms, from traditional systems to mobile devices and novel interaction paradigms.

The International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces is the principal international forum for reporting outstanding research and development in intelligent user interfaces. IUI '03 solicits submissions of original papers, posters, and system demonstrations on significant progress and new directions in all aspects of intelligent user interfaces. In addition to showcasing methods for intelligently reasoning and adapting to fit user needs, IUI '03 aims to highlight interfaces whose focus goes beyond rational ''intelligence'' to address psychological concerns such as emotion, personality, and motivation.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Guidelines for Submissions

IUI '03 solicits three types of submissions:

Full Paper Submissions: Full paper submissions should describe substantial contributions of novel ongoing work that has produced advanced results. Accepted submissions will be presented in the main conference program, and authors may ask to be considered for an additional live demonstration in the conference poster session. Full papers should be at most 8 pages long.

Short Paper Submissions: Short papers should describe novel work that is in progress at the time of submission. Accepted submissions will be published in the conference proceedings and presented in the conference poster session, with optional system demonstrations. Short papers should be at most 3 pages long.

Demonstration Abstracts: Demonstration abstracts should describe cutting-edge systems not described in paper submissions. Accepted submissions will be published in the conference proceedings and their systems demonstrated in the conference poster session. Demonstration abstracts should summarize the system's significance and its performance and should include at least one screen shot. Demonstration abstracts should be 1 page long.

Authors of full and short papers must submit abstracts of their papers by SEPTEMBER 30, 2002, followed by the papers themselves by OCTOBER 4, 2002. Demonstration abstracts are due by OCTOBER 4, 2002.

All submissions must follow the CHI paper format and be submitted online in PDF format. Authors are requested to prepare submissions as close as possible to final camera-ready versions. Authors will be able to manage submissions and reviews through the online conference reviewing system.

All submissions will be reviewed by members of an international program committee.
